Encounter with God
Nehemiah 13.
In this whole chapter, we see the decisiveness of Nehemiah as a decisive leader. He is strict on himself and his people, uncompromising God’s standards. It is one thing to admire decisive people for their courage to stick to what they think is right, another to practise it ourselves. Consider this:
“The scandal is that most evangelical Christians are, according to recent surveys, living just like the rest of the world. This situation owes much to the sidelining of Christian discipline by churches anxious to be accepted by increasingly consumerist members.”*
Have things such as gambling, homo, drinking, smoking, divorce, piracy, profanity and hard metal music (possibly) become more acceptable to us because everyone is accepting it? Especially with the media popularizing such things, we subconsciously take in these messages and follow them eventually (sorry ah, I’m a media student). What should our standards be? Where do we draw the line? Are we guilty of relaxing our stand so that we are able to fit in with our friends?
PS: Besides, from the day we decided to follow Christ, we don’t fit into this world anymore. Mocking, humiliation and getting laughed at for our strict standards should be the norm.
What do you guys think?
